Topps got into the chewing gum business in 1938 after the original company, American Leaf Tobacco, ran into hard times during the Great Depression. While Topps might be best known for its baseball cards, which the company introduced in 1952, its first product was a world-famous gum: Bazooka. In 1953 Topps sealed Bazooka's legacy when it started to include Bazooka Joe comics in every piece. It also included its gum in baseball card packs. As it built its baseball card empire, Topps continued to manufacture confections, and in the 70s it started moving away from bubble gums and into more conventional confections. The company introduced the Ring Pop. They also make the Baby Bottle Pop and Juice Drop Pop, all of which are still sold today.
