For over 130 years Dosher's Candies has served up candies of many varieties, but became famous for a few of them. First came caramel-flavored popcorn, which he started selling with the upstart Cincinnati Redstockings baseball team. While Cracker Jacks was ultimately enshrined in the anthem "Take Me Out To The Ballgame," Dosher's was the original caramel corn for baseball. Around the turn of the century is when Dosher's found the breakthrough that would carry the company through the next century. Taffy had become a craze in France, and Claus Doscher, with European heritage, wanted to capitalize. He created his own recipe and in the early 1900s released French Chew to the public. For over 30 years French Chews were only available in vanilla flavor, but in 1939 they started making chocolate and strawberry, with banana coming more recently. Doscher's also produces a line of candy canes.
