Accessibility Statement

Shopping here should work for everyone, whatever you use to get around the web — a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, magnification, or voice control. Below is a straight account of how this storefront measures up today, what still needs attention, and how to reach a person if you hit a wall.

The guideline we measure against

Our target is Level AA of version 2.1 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, usually shortened to WCAG. It is the benchmark auditors and regulators reach for when judging whether a site works for disabled visitors.

How we measure up: partially conformant

That phrase is the formal way of saying the bulk of this storefront satisfies the benchmark while certain pieces still do not. We would rather hand you that than a tidy claim of full compliance.

Already working

  • Controls, links and inputs announce themselves properly to a screen reader
  • The whole storefront can be driven from the keyboard, with a clear outline marking your position
  • A shortcut at the top of every page jumps you straight to the main content, bypassing the navigation
  • Photographs carry descriptions, and purely ornamental graphics are flagged so a screen reader passes over them instead of reciting a filename
  • The video on our home page was captioned by a person, not by an algorithm
  • Heading levels are marked up, so you can move between sections rather than reading straight through
  • The basket panel opens and closes from the keyboard, and the Escape key dismisses it

Not fixed yet

One thing we know about:

  • A handful of tap targets come out smaller than the recommended minimum

We re-examine the storefront on a regular cycle and revise this section as things move. Catching something we have missed is genuinely useful to us, so please do say.

The checkout screens

Payment runs inside Shopify's own system, which we neither control nor modify; they document its accessibility separately. If the closing steps give you difficulty, write to the address above and we will finish the purchase for you.

Our checking routine

Every month, and after any alteration to the storefront, we put these pages through automated tests covering the machine-verifiable portion of WCAG 2.1 AA. Machines miss a great deal, which is precisely why the address above exists.
