Atkinson Candy Company is one of many confections manufacturers that started during the Great Depression. It seems that people turned to sweet treats for small joys during tough times. The company opened its doors in 1932 and has remained in family hands ever since. Atkinson made its big breakthrough in the 1950s when it introduced the Chick-O-Stock, a peanut butter filled, toasted coconut coated candy. Over the years they developed more stick-shaped candies, such as Coconut Longboys, but now specialize in fun-sized candies. Most of their confections center on peanut butter, or whole peanuts, and coconut, and they've created many combinations thereof. You can now find not only regular Chick-O-Stocks, but also bite-sized versions that match the rest of the Atkinson's line. They also offer sugar-free versions of many of their candies.
